Job Title:                           Medical Technologist (Lab Tech)

Summary: the Medical Technologist is responsible for supervising and managing all laboratory activities at the Bad River Health and Wellness Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities including the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for specimen collection and preparation. Performs venipunctures efficiently and safely using aseptic technique.

Performs biological, hematological, chemical, or physical analysis and determinations at the direction of professional staff.

Performs tests on a variety of biological and non-biological samples at the direction of professional staff.

Operates, adjusts and maintains lab instrumentation. Schedules routine maintenance and service of instrumentation and equipment. Functions as vendor contract for supplies and services needed for the lab.

Logs samples and related quality assurance data to maintain the integrity of testing procedures.

Prepares chemical reagents and biological media according to formulae, assumes responsibility for the accuracy in preparation and standardization of solutions.

Assist business office staff with billing processes as directed by the clinic administrator.

Maintains all policies and procedures for the lab.

Maintains all documentation for regulatory agency compliance and CLIA certification.

Supervises CMAs or other nursing staff assisting with lab functions and specimen collection.

Uses Personal Protective Equipment appropriately and consistently.

Ensures lab processes are consistent with Blood Borne Pathogen guidelines.

Keeps inventories of supplies and stocks on hand. Orders supplies as needed.

Assist Clinic Administrator with lab budget development and works within budget guidelines throughout the fiscal year.

Maintains technical records and prepares reports as needed.

Performs related work as assigned by the Clinic Administrator.

Education and/or Experience:

Required:

Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or similar degree preferred with a minimum of one (1) year experience as a lab technician.

An Associates degree may be substituted if candidate has over five (5) years of experience in a lab technician position and previous supervisory experience.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Required:

Knowledge of laboratory tests and analyses.

Knowledge of laboratory terminology and equipment.

Knowledge of Quality Assurance Procedures.

Ability to collect specimens appropriately.

Background Check:

This position is contingent on ability to pass background check required. This position required for eligibility a Caregiver Background Check regarding working with children and/or elderly.

Language Skills:

Ability to communicate effectively written and verbal.

Reasoning Ability:

Excellent customer service skills.

Must be physically able to participate in clinic activities on a daily basis. Position requires prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, stooping and/or occasional lifting up to 25lbs. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
