POSITION DECRIPTION

Job Title:                             Water/Wastewater Lead Operator

Department:                        Water/Sewer Department

Hourly Rate:                       $10.00/hr - $15.00/hr (DOQ)

Exempt:                               No/Hourly

Supervisor:                          Waste Water Treatment Plant Manager

Summary: The Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) Operator will be responsible for maintaining water/sewer lines, fire hydrants, lift stations, pump houses and lagoons. The WWTP Operator position is subject to mandatory on-call duties, seven (7) days a week, 24 hours day, in case of emergency. This is a revolving schedule job including intermittent work on weekends, holidays, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities including the following.

Over seeing sample scheduling.

The WWTP Operator will assist in weekly water testing will conduct tests in the Lab.

Will monitor control panels and meters including taking daily electrical meter readings.

Will be responsible for upkeep of utility grounds and buildings including cutting grass, etc.

Will receive on-the-job training for utilities and building operations, and attend regular training workshops and meetings.

Follow and help implement O&M plan for four (4) water systems and three (3) wastewater systems.

Experience in following and implementing Utility Preventative Maintenance Plan & Safety Plan.

Education and/or Experience:

Required:

High School Diploma or its equivalent.

Must have basic math skills in math, algebra, formulas and graphs.

Must possess basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical components.

Possess good knowledge of groundwater systems and SBR and lagoon wastewater systems.

Ability to obtain all 5 required State of Wisconsin certifications for drinking water and waste water operator within two (2) years from date of employment required.

Must be able to maintain required certificates and license throughout employment.

Highly motivated to attend training, traveling and classroom school setting, along with taking exams for State Certification.

Preferred:

Previous demonstrated work experience in Water/Wastewater Process Control.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Required:

This is a required driver position.

Must have a valid driver’s license and meet eligibility for tribal insurance.

Ability to obtain CDL license within six (6) months from date of employment.

Must be willing and able to attend regular training workshops and meetings.

Background:

This position is contingent on ability to pass background check required. This position requires a required driver check to see eligibility for tribal insurance.

Language Ability:

Must possess basic knowledge of computers, including word-processing software, excel, reading and generating reports from data collected in the field.

Must be physically able to perform all job duties. Position requires some walking, standing, bending, stooping, and occasional lifting up to 75 lbs. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Must be willing and able to work in adverse weather conditions.
