Job Title:                    Commercial Fisheries Observer

Department:              Natural Resource

Hourly Rate:              $10.00/hr                    LTE-40 Hours – 6 months

Supervisor:                 Fisheries Specialist

Summary: The Commercial Fisheries Observer will perform onboard monitoring of commercial fishing activities in Wisconsin and Michigan waters of Lake Superior for the purpose of developing Catch per unit of Effort (CPE) values, in treaty waters of Lake Superior.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Collect biological data pertaining to Lake Superior Fishery, maintain electronic files for commercial fishery data, harvest and monitoring data. Additional duties may be assigned at the discretion of the Natural Resource Department and the Bad River Tribe.

Education and/or Experience:

Required:

High school diploma or its equivalent.

Minimum of one (1) year of experience in fisheries data collection, revant fisheing experience, or practical experience working in a natural resource field.

Other Skills and Abilities:

This is a required driver position.

Must have a valid driver’s license and meet eligibility for tribal insurance.

Must be familiar with the Bad River Reservation and surrounding areas, it’s distinct geographic features and the fish and wildlife therein.

Must be self-motivated, trustworthy, dependable, and willing to work long hours occasionally.

Background Check:

This position is contingent on ability to pass background check required. This position requires for eligibility a required driver check, to meet eligibility for Tribal Insurance.

Language Skills:

Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Must possess proficient computer skills.

Must be physically able to perform all job duties, including field work. Walking, standing, bending, stooping and occasional lifting up to 50lbs., and/or carrying for short distances required.
