Job Title:                   Climate Change Coordinator

Department:              Natural Resource Department

Hourly Rate:             $14.00/hour - $16.00/hour (depending upon qualifications)                                                            Duration subject to funding

Exempt:                     No                               Hourly (40 hrs/wk)

Supervisor:                Water Resources Specialist

Summary: The Climate Change Coordinator will assist the Natural Resources Department in the coordination and implementation of activities designed to mitigate climate change impacts, adapt to a changing climate, and increase the awareness and understanding of potential impacts associated with a changing climate.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Learn about existing Department’s programs and efforts pertaining to climate change to identify gaps and opportunities to complement and expand these efforts.
  • Coordinate the implementation of the Tribe’s 7th Generation Climate Change Monitoring Plan with other programs in the Natural Resources Department;
  • Assist the Department with the development of a climate change adaptation plan and/or with the planning of climate change adaptation projects;
  • Conduct outreach and education regarding climate change impacts and strategies to address the impacts, to include an informational booth, materials, newsletter articles, and other activities;
  • Assist with grant administration requirements, such as preparing progress reports and managing grant budget, and secure additional funding for continuation and expansion of the Department’s climate change related projects (in coordination with other programs in the Natural Resources Department).
  • Participate in regular activities and meetings of the Natural Resources Department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

Required:

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, water resources, or other natural resources related field or equivalent professional work experience in natural resources fields.

Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

Must have experience successfully managing multiple projects and budgets.

Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software in a Windows environment.

Must be self-motivated, trustworthy, dependable, and willing to travel and work long hours occasionally.

Preferred:                                                                                                                                                                                                        

Master’s degree in environmental studies, water resources, or other natural resources related field.

Experience with grant administration and grant writing.

Experience conducting outreach activities, including event organizing, and promotions.

Experience with implementing a climate change monitoring strategy.

Experience with climate change adaptation planning and/or implementation of adaptation projects.

Experience facilitating team discussions and group decisions.

Other Skills and Abilities:

This is a required driver position.

Must have a valid driver’s license and meet eligibility for tribal insurance.

Background Check:

This position is contingent on the ability to pass background check.

Must be self-motivated.

Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
