Job Title: Youth Services Director                                                     

Department: New Youth Services Department          

Hourly Rate: $18.00-20.00/hr. depending on qualifications

Exempt: This is a Full-time, 40-hour per week Exempt position        

Supervisor: Tribal Operations Manager

 

The Bad River Youth Services Department will promote social, physical, cognitive, mental health and cultural wellness among Bad River Youth through multi-faceted, culturally responsive methods and strategies.

Summary:

The Youth Services Director (YSD) plans and oversees programs and activities for youth in the Bad River community. The YSD will collaborate across all departments and with outside agencies to ensure provision of comprehensive, culturally responsive programs for area youth. The YSD has the primary responsibility of creating, planning, organizing, and implementing a new Youth Services Department to meet the needs of youth in the Bad River community. This will include but not limited to developing a mentorship program, assisting and engaging youth in seasonal and cultural camps, and working collaboratively with Bad River Departments to create a centralized calendar for youth activities/services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Continual assessment of youth needs and development and coordination of services and programs for youth
  • Assist with referral and linkage to community resources and advocate for youth whenever necessary
  • Supervise Youth Services Department staff
  • Establish a Bad River Youth Council to enable you to have meaningful input
  • Coordinate Summer Youth programming
  • Collaborate with necessary key departments and outside agencies which serve youth
  • Facilitate cultural programs/camps for youth seasonally
  • Develop and maintain working relationships within departments and outside agencies
  • Maintain appropriate recordkeeping system including data on youth activities
  • Develop and maintain community relations through follow through with contacts
  • Submit written program reports for Tribal Council review
  • Create and disseminate information about upcoming youth activities
  • Prepare a youth calendar that is up to date and accurate
  • Create and maintain budget(s) for the Youth Department
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Abide by Tribal Policies and Procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualification Requirements:

  • Working with children in an educational or recreation capacity
  • Knowing appropriate developmental stages and needs associated with working with children
  • Proficiency in computer programs, especially Microsoft Office program
  • Certification in areas such as, CPR, First Aid and AED

Education and/or Experience:

Minimum of Associate of Arts degree in Education or Human Services, or equivalent experience.

Other Skills and Abilities:

This is a required driver position; must meet tribal driver's eligibility for insurance at all times.

Background Check:

This position is contingent on ability to pass Caregiver background check requirements. Caregiver background check is required when working with children and/or elderly.

Language Skills:

Intermediate or Advance Proficiency in Ojibwemowin preferred; strong computer skills also preferred.

Reasoning Ability:

Prior experience working with children of all ages, abilities and temperaments.

Must be physical able to perform all job duties. Walking, standing, bending, stooping and occasional lifting up to 25 lbs and/or carrying for short distances.
