Summary:The primary duties ofthe Behavioral HealthCounselor are to work with children, adolescents andyoung adults in theprevention, treatment and recoveryfromsubstance abuse, mental health disordersand suicideideation. The BehavioralHealth Counselor will be the advocate for thisgroup of patients and coordinateorganizationalactivities and resourcesto address gapsin services.

EssentialDuties and Responsibilities include thefollowing.

  • Provide high quality, compassionate and ethical outpatient behavioralhealth therapyfor substance abuse,mental health problems and suicide ideation
  • Assessesthe clinical status of patients through a referralsystem
  • Provide culturally sensitive therapy and incorporate cultural practice in treatment, intervention andeducation when possible
  • Works with the primary care teamto efficiently and effectively treatand manage patients with chronicemotionalor health
  • Uses an integrated health care approach to manage mental health or substance abuse problems
  • Assists inthe detection of at-risk patients and development ofplans to preventfurther psychologicalorphysical
  • Assists inpreventing relapse or morbidity in conditions that tend to recur
  • Teaches patients, families and staff about care, prevention and treatment enhancement
  • Provides family counseling and parenting classes to support patient goals
  • Monitors the site’s behavioral health program, identifying problems related to patient services and makingrecommendationsfor
  • Attends and participates in meetings and quality improvement activities as
  • Serves asa member of committees as
  • Participates inevaluation of peers and support
  • Furthers themission the through activesupport of the strategic goals
  • Acts as liaison with the Bad River Tribe, Ashland School District and mental health community for thepurposeof supporting individual student development goals.
  • Ensuring programeligibility and compliancewith established
  • Assists indeveloping interventions, functional behavior assessments and behavior plans for the purpose ofproviding asafeandeffectiveeducational environment for students with challenging behaviors.
  • Conducts workshops, training, in-service presentations, etc. in classroom management techniques and topics for the purpose of developing skills and establishing effective relationshipswith behaviorallyoremotionallydisturbed students.
  • Participates ina variety of meetings, workshops and committees for thepurpose conveyingand/orgathering information required
  • Staycurrentwith updated research and bestpractice
  • Maintain grantcompliance
  • Maintain patient files and document appropriately in the electronic healthrecord
    • Maintain required billable hoursand submit documents in atimely fashion for billing purposes
    • Maintain HIPAA compliance
    • Other duties asassigned

Education and/or Experience:Required:

Minimumrequirement of Masters DegreeinSocialWork or mental health related fieldLicensed Behavioral HealthCounselor in the stateof WI.

Must be willing and able to do field work and attend programrelated training.Two years ofexperiencewith child, adolescent and family services preferred

Strong counseling skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

 

OtherSkills and Abilities:Required:

This is arequired driver position, must have a valid driver’slicense and meet eligibility fortribal insurance

 

Background Check:

This position is contingent onability to pass background check required. This position foreligibility a CaregiverBackground Check regarding working with children and/or elderly and required driver check, to meet eligibility forTribal Insurance.

 

Language Skills:

Must possess strong written and oral communication skills, must be familiar with
currentGPS mobile devices andabilityto readmap.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Good interpersonalskills and ability to work with individuals and families with objectivity and courtesy.Understanding of whereabouts of surrounding medical facilities preferred.Abilityto dealwith frequent change,delays or unexpected events. Diligent attention to detail and safety (such as observing safety and securityprocedures, adapting driving style to bad weather conditions, etc.)

 

Physical Demands:

Ability to sit for long periodsof time. Mustbe physicallyableto make home visits and/or transport clients. Positionrequires some walking, standing, bending, stooping and occasional lifting up to 50lbs. Subject to inside and outsideenvironmental conditions, andoccasional smoking environment.
