Job Title:                   Wildlife & Fisheries Aide/Assistant

Department:              Natural Resource Department

Hourly Rate:             $12.00/hr                 Limited Term – 32-40 Hrs/wk

Summary: The Wildlife & Fisheries Aide/Assistant will assist the Wildlife Specialist in the field and with office work related to various projects within the Bad River Fish & Game program. This position is a limited-term position and will range between 32-40 hrs/wk up to but not to exceed 26 weeks. This position is non-exempt (or hourly).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities including the following:;

  • Assist in Sharp-tailed Grouse habitat restoration work in the Moquah Barrens;
  • Assist in translocation of Sharp-tailed Grouse from MN to the Barrens, including some overnight travel and stays;
  • Assist with Bald Eagle monitoring and contaminant study;
  • Assist with piping plover project transportation by boat as needed;
  • Respond to nuisance wildlife complaints;
  • Assist in wildlife monitoring efforts on and surrounding the Bad River Reservation;
  • Be able to conduct surveys at late and early morning hours as required;
  • Assist with the monitoring efforts for invasive species;
  • Assist with invasive species control projects, including invasive carp;
  • Construct and install wildlife habitat improvement structures such as bat houses, wood duck boxes, and other nesting boxes;
  • Collecting and recording field observations and applicable measures;
  • Entering field data collected into internal database;
  • Assist in preparing maps related to various projects;
  • Must be able to work with limited supervision;
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor and/or Natural Resources Director.

Education and/or Experience:


High School diploma or its equivalent. B.S./B.A. degree in natural resources field preferred. Special skills are required, including: individual should possess considerable knowledge of the reservation’s natural resources. Must possess experience in field operations including: use of map, compass, and GPS, watercraft, ATV’s. Must be competent in use of computers and current software applications. Experience with GIS and Microsoft programs is preferred. Must be able to work irregular hours. Must possess valid Wisconsin driver’s license and must be eligible for coverage under Tribes Auto Insurance Plan. Subject background security checks.

This is a required driver position.

Proven ability to record and maintain careful, concise, and accurate field notes. Must be self-motivated, trustworthy, dependable, and willing to work long hours occasionally. ATV and boat experience required. Subject to background security checks. Drug-

This position is contingent on ability to pass a background check required. This position requires a regular background check to be run.

Proven ability to communicate well through oral presentations and in daily interactions with a diverse public.
